Cassie, curled up in the armchair with her knees to her chest, laughed nervously. Her petite frame looked even smaller under that oversized sweater. “You two fight like you’ve fucked.”

Jordan choked on his drink, spraying beer across the coffee table. “Yo, what?!”

Ava’s flush deepened, but she didn’t break eye contact with me. “Shut up. It’s not like that. He’s my brother.”

“But it could be,” Maya hummed, her tone low and teasing. “You’d be hot together.”

“Just stop. Not happening. That’s my little sister.” I leaned back, crossing my arms, but my heart was pounding too fast. I could feel it in my throat, a hard, guilty thud.

Ava didn’t look away. Her green eyes locked on mine, sharp and challenging. And for one hot, endless second, no one laughed. The room felt smaller, the air thicker, like we were all waiting for something to snap. I swallowed hard, gripping my bottle tighter, and forced myself to break the stare. But I could still feel her next to me, too close, too real.
